Heritage Room

Many of you know this room as “Tiger’s Room”. Tiger was an Elks member who has since passed away. Tiger would go into this room to read his newspaper and enjoy his cold beverage. This room has a lot of character, and Lodges were to have a “Heritage Room” to display the history of the Elks and their Lodge. Beth Crist had a vision, to transfer this room into that room, a place to showcase the pictures and memorabilia of our Lodge. The Bellefonte Elks received its charter in 1907, and acquired their current building in 1908.  The building was the former home of Governor Andrew Curtain, who was the Civil War Governor from 1861-1867.  He was the 15th Governor of Pennsylvania and he was one of seven Governors that came from Bellefonte.  The building has gone through a lot of changes since it was acquired in 1908, with this being the most recent renovation. Beth, along with a few members, added a fresh coat of paint to the walls, new lighting, new curtains and carpet, and added a few items that have historical meaning, one being a roll top desk. Some say this desk belonged to Governor Curtain. An old parade uniform was added to the room along with a few items of memorabilia history that are displayed in the glass cabinets. A plaque displaying the memory of Tiger sits on the mantel. A table and chairs occupy the room along with some wing back chairs, complements of members Scott McKee and Kim Chambers, a few high top tables and chairs, and a brand new television donated by members Keith Rupert and Angela Packer.  The room is very warm and welcoming and thanks to Beth’s vision, we have a beautiful room to enjoy!
