Flag Day

June 14th is Flag Day.  The Elks celebrate this day with a tribute to the Flag.  The ceremony is held at Talleyrand Park, located in Bellefonte, unless there is bad weather, then it is moved to the Lodge.  The history of the Flag is read, while Scouts carry the various flags to be placed at the front of the ceremony.  The Bellefonte Community Band plays various patriotic tunes, and taps are played while the local VFW does the 21-gun salute.  A flag burning ceremony is also done by the Pleasant Gap Legion.  Everyone is invited back to the Lodge for light refreshments.  This is a wonderful ceremony, and if you have not experienced it, mark your calendars for this very moving event.
